Why Quiet Quitting Is The Most Healthy And Smart Thing To Do For Your Career
When there was a plethora of news about quiet quitting, I remember reading about how it was mostly a negative thing.
It implied how the employee or boss are not motivated and simply didn’t care to go the extra mile. Therefore, it meant that they’d never amount to anything in their career. It meant that the super hard working and passionate ones deserve to rise up only.
But if you ask me, quiet quitting is the smartest thing you can do at work.
Why?
To break it down, quiet quitting to me entails:
1) To be able to SHOW WHEN exactly you’re hard at work.
2) To be able to KNOW WHEN you can get away with relaxing, taking a break or even doing less work.
In Singaporean language, it means, “To know when to wayang and when to go eat snake.”
And this may surprise you, but for (1), you can easily do it without being pretentious, showy or deceptive. For (2), you can do this without coming across as lazy.
Yes, these are real skills. These are also the mark of a mature adult and smart worker. Some of the best people I know work this way.
