Member-only story
A few years ago, I had the unfortunate opportunity of having to be taught by an idiot.
We were working for a nightclub. Our job was to simply bring customers over. We would just get out there and hand out our name cards.
One time when we were out, he threw my name card on the ground.
I asked him why did he do that.
He enthusiastically replied, “You never know bro! Someone may pick it up and want to come to the club!”
We were outside a huge mall next to the road. The card landed on top of a drain. Yes, this moron threw my card on of all spots, a grated drain.
I was absolutely flabbergasted.
I get it. When it comes to sales, you never know. You never know who or what will lead to something huge; a big fish. You just have to grind it out in the unknown as you network.
But to keep telling yourself “You never know” without any intelligence or common sense is just wasted time and effort.
You can’t find a fish in prawn pond.
Network in places where your prospective customers hang out. At the same time, while you’re add it, treat them like human and give as much free value as you can. They’re not objects, like your name card.
Above all else, take your job seriously and don’t be a moron.
Then one day, you never know what rewards will come, but it will come. Just be patient and consistent.
