The Advent Of Viral Success (Without Knowing Shit)

Here are my thoughts on a form of success that’s going around these days.

What form is that? The viral success on social media.

People, from kids to adults gain fame and money seemingly overnight.

Are they truly successful?

  1. It irks me when they say shit like, “Haha I was just goofing around”, “Oh I was just having fun!”, “I didn’t expect this to go viral!” Honestly, this only means they didn’t know what they were doing. There is nothing teachable here.
  2. A more inspiring version of this is, “Do not do it for the money or fame. Do it because you want to create something only you can create. Do it because you want to help others. Do it because you love it.” I have mixed thoughts on this. Yes, you should create art because you love it and to help others. But this is bad advice when you’re in debt and urgently in need of money. Yet, if you do it solely for the money and fame, you will likely end up being inauthentic and produce shitty content.
  3. It is thus your duty to balance out these two practices. It is not easy. But entrepreneurship was never meant to be easy.
  4. It is an ongoing battle. So fight on, everyday.
  5. Kids are growing up. Young people who find fame and fortune online will be distracted as they enter different stages in their lives. They have to put in the hard work to maintain their success. Regardless, I wouldn’t take their advice seriously.
