I won’t comment on the merits of serving NS. I was the kind of guy who hated it and thought it a waste of time. Like a lot of other guys here, if we had the choice, no way would I ever want to go through it again despite the many values I learnt inside.

I’d say though, your son Jon need not have anything to worry about. It’s just life. It has ups and downs. Danger is very real, but the best thing you can is just be wary and practice safety yourself.

If 99.9% of Singaporean guys can go through it without any problems, there’s really no reason why he can’t too.
