Can You Really Stop Them From Killing Themselves? Mike Shinoda On Going Back In Time

A while back I wrote about how I cannot even begin to imagine a reality where my late father is still around.

It took time for me and my family to grieve and move on. Things have developed. My brother and I grew up. I had my fair share of challenges to become the man I am today.

Hence, as I wrote, trivial questions that go along the lines of, “If you could go back in time…” will never apply to me.

I won’t even acknowledge it.

This is how moving on is like: You don’t bother fantasizing about other realities.

A different take I came upon just recently was in this TikTok video of Mike Shinoda kind of being asked the same question.

He instantly saw right through the question and knew it was about whether he could have done something about Chester Bennington for a different outcome:

“But if they’re going to keep trying, then being there doesn’t fix it right?”

Chester Bennington took his own life in 2017.

Perhaps there’s a tinge of hopelessness and cynicism in there.

But I like to think that Mike has also acknowledged that it is what it is and you simply have to accept the reality given to you.

Do your best for yourself and those around you.

Then move on.
